What is schizophrenia?

When someone suffers from schizophrenia he or she is suffering from a mental disorder within the schizoid spectrum. The disorder occurs in various forms and ranges from mild to severe cases. The disorder usually occurs in people between 15 and 30 years old. So young people in particular are affected by the mental disorder. Schizophrenia literally means split mind. An important fact is that during the formation and the progress of the psychological disorder a psychological episode occurred at least once.

Psychotic episodes schizophrenia

The psychotic episodes of schizophrenia go hand in hand with different perceptions of reality. Because of this, someone has to deal with an illogical thought pattern, hallucinations and a sharp increase in emotional disorders. Think disorders and behavior disorders. Previously, this condition was also called dementia at a young age, but today the terminology has been refined. Although schizophrenia means split mind, it has long been proven that people with schizophrenia do not have a split personality. So they do not consist out of multiple persons. Schizophrenia is therefore sometimes confused with dissociative identity disorder. The split mind does not express itself in schizophrenia in the form of multiple personalities, but expresses itself in an image that is linked in the mind, between the perception, thoughts and between the emotions and thoughts which have strongly decreased. People who have schizophrenia, generally experienced one or more of psychotic episodes. An episode can last for several days, but also for many years. Such a psychosis can be very severe, the person is very active but also very confused. Then this is called an acute psychosis. When a psychotic episode lasts longer than this progresses is often a little calmer. This is called a chronic psychosis.
